After cataloguing 80+ workspaces across Greece on The Remoties, we've noticed the same handful of factors separate a genuinely good remote-work café from one that just looks good in photos. Here's the checklist we actually use.

1. WiFi speed — but verified, not advertised

A "Free WiFi" sticker in the window tells you nothing. Ask a staff member directly, run a speed test once you're connected, or better — check a community-verified rating before you even walk in. Speeds that matter: 50 Mbps is fine for browsing and email; video calls want 100 Mbps+; anything involving large uploads or downloads wants Fiber-level speeds.

2. Noise level, matched to your task

Don't default to "quietest possible" — match the noise level to what you're actually doing. Silent cafés are ideal for calls and deep writing; moderate noise can actually help with creative or repetitive tasks (the "coffee shop effect" is a real, studied phenomenon).

3. Outlets — count them, don't assume them

A café can have forty seats and four outlets. Scan for outlets before you sit down, or check community photos/notes if the listing includes them.

4. Table size and seating type

Small round two-top tables are fine for a coffee, uncomfortable for a laptop-plus-notebook-plus-phone setup. Look for cafés with proper desk-height tables if you're settling in for more than an hour.

5. How long you're actually welcome to stay

This is the hardest thing to judge from outside. Busy, high-turnover spots near tourist attractions often expect tables to clear within an hour; quieter neighborhood cafés are usually far more relaxed about multi-hour sessions — just be considerate and order something every couple of hours.

6. Budget

Prices vary hugely by neighborhood. If you're working from cafés regularly, budget-consciousness matters more than a single visit — filter by price range so a daily habit doesn't quietly become expensive.

Put the checklist to work

Every filter above — WiFi speed, noise level, outlets, budget, pet-friendliness — is built directly into The Remoties workspace directory and interactive map. Skip the guesswork and find your next work spot in Greece in under a minute.
